That’s My Boy

On this work
The people who shape us can remain part of us even as we move away and become our own. In That’s My Boy, the tree suggests roots, growth and generations, while the collective presence of women raises questions about the relationships and experiences from which an identity can grow.
Yet there is distance here, too. Is he looking back toward his roots with a sense of belonging, longing or separation? Has he moved away from what shaped him, or is he still connected to it in ways that distance cannot change?
And then there is the title: who is saying, “That’s my boy”? The work leaves that relationship unresolved, inviting us to consider where we come from, who becomes part of us, and what we carry with us as we find our own place in the world.
